IT WAS THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME. Our 4th Annual Adventure Vacation to beautiful South Africa was a trip of beauty and reflection. We spent 11 wonderful days discovering the sights, sounds and flavors of this regal destination. We toured Soweto (acronym for SOuth WEstern TOwnship) where we visited the Hector Pieterson Museum, and discovered the cause of the tragic riots which led to his death; passed the Mandela House. The journey continued to Regina Mondi Church, site of many secret underground meetings of the then banned political parties. Soweto is unlike a suburb you’ve ever seen or been to, yet the history of struggle encapsulated here is a cornerstone of the South African story. We also took a tour of the Apartheid Museum.
We then left for Pilanesberg National Park and onto our safari lodge. Tucked in the expanses of Pilanesberg National Park, Bakubung Bush Lodge offered the best of both worlds when combining the peaceful bush environment with luxury and comfort. We took both an early morning and nocturnal vehicle game drive.
In Cape Town we boarded a ferry to historical Robben Island. This was where former South African president, Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were held. Afterward, we were wisked-away to tour Stellenbosch in the heart of Cape Winelands. Stellenbosch is arguably one of the Province’s most beautiful towns and makers of some of South Africa’s best wines.
